Virginia Sherbourne

I trained as a solicitor (currently non-practising) in 2010 at a well known private client firm in the City, initially specialising in contentious probate and trust law.  I escaped the rat race in 2011 to work as a legacy case officer at Cancer Research UK, working with them for several years  and eventually managing a team of six specialist solicitors dealing with contentious and difficult legacy cases.  I then worked at RNID as an interim legacy administration lead and have worked with a number of smaller charities to support their legacy function.  I am a member of the Institute of Legacy Management.

I firmly believe that no one size fits all when it comes to a successful legacy administration and strategy programme, and will work with your charity to help you to get the best from the legacies you have right now. I also spend a lot of my time talking to fundraisers and trustees about how good legacy administration can effectively support fundraising, and helping smaller charities develop effective legacy procedures.  I have worked with several charities on short and medium term legacy forecasting and will happily advise on options for legacy case management.   I am very familiar with probate law and can guide you through the management of contentious cases, advising you on when and how to instruct external lawyers and how to get the best value out of those relationships.  I also have experience in dealing with very high value cases and can manage complex relationships with multiple beneficiaries and relatives where necessary.  I also particularly enjoying dealing with estates with complex and long running planning matters.
